How to care for your flowers?

Flowers have been the most universally loved gift since time immemorial. The mere sight of a tastefully arranged bouquet brightens even the gloomiest day, and nothing turns a frown upside down faster. But how do you ensure that they last?

Adopting a two-pronged approach works best- the right flowers and the right care.

Firstly, it’s important to choose high quality flowers- the higher the quality, the longer they last. To simplify this for you, each Rowena Coelho floral arrangement uses the finest quality blooms to ensure you enjoy you enjoy their beauty for a long time.

To help your florals stay at their peak levels of loveliness for weeks, a little care goes a long way. Firstly, remove all the packaging and use a sharp, clean knife or shears and cut the stems at an angle to trim off ½ to 1 inch from the bottom.  Cutting at an angle helps the flowers take up water better, so they stay plump and fresh.

Next, half-fill a clean vase with fresh water to minimize the growth of bacteria. Remove any leaves and foliage from the part of the bouquet that would lie below the waterline. Arrange the blooms in a pleasing and attractive manner. Take your time doing this till you’re satisfied with the result. Once you’ve got them arranged, it’s time to place them in the perfect spot.

Keep your flower arrangement away from direct sunlight and other sources of heat. Another crucial, but little-known, factor is ethylene gas. This gas is naturally released by ripening fruits and vegetables and causes flowers to wilt. Because of this, it’s important to keep your bouquet away from them to help them last as long as they possibly can.

Now that you’ve got your pretty flowers in the right location, they only need a few minutes of care every 1-2 days. To keep them fresh and blooming, change the water in the vase and trim off the bottom of the stalks either everyday or every alternate day. While you do this, also check for wilted blooms and leaves. Remove them to keep the arrangement looking fresher for longer. Keep an eye on the water level especially in warm or dry weather and top it up if it’s running low.

Following these basic tips to care for your cut flowers will keep it happily blooming for days, filling you with joy every time you look at it! Come by and pick up some delightful flowers from Rowena Coelho and let them thrive under your care.
